EnScan

Case study 3 - Design and manufacture

When Minima Design was asked to design a bespoke cast aluminium bellhousing for Eco-racing in Norfolk, it became apparent that a lot of important data was only available through measurement and observation of a number of existing set-ups.  It was at this point that En-scan was approached.

Eco-racing is planning to race a Radical sportscar with a V10 diesel engine around LeMans this year. The car requires a new bellhousing unit with an integral oil reservoir to feed the engine dry sump.

En-scan visited Eco-racing at their premises in Norfolk to spend a day scanning the engine, gearbox and ancilliary components. This data was then taken into SolidWorks 3D CAD by Minima and used to identify critical reference dimensions for the design and manufacture of the bespoke bell-housing – this CAD data was then later used to help design the rear suspension geometry for the car.
