Schools & Colleges
Rates and availability are under review as we work with Suffolk Education Business Partnership to bring technology and engineering experience into schools and colleges.
En-scan is proposing to make the education of young engineers and designers a priority within our business. We are in a position to be able to provide technology and industry experience to help supplement that available in schools and colleges.
In the short term, we are proposing to offer the following:
Nigel Blair B.Eng (Hons) Mechanical engineering
Nigel has 19 years R&D experience as a mechanical design engineer in the oil, agricultural, marine and new product development industries.
Creaform Exascan three dimensional laser scanner with data capture software on a laptop. The Exascan unit has a class II eye-safe laser and a triple camera capture set-up which gives it an accuracy of 0.05mm. This scanner is unique in that it is fully portable and self positioning. Also uniquely, its file output format is STL which is an industry standard that can be directly imported into many software applications such as 3 dimensional Computer Aided Design, animation and photo-realistic rendering packages.
A seat of 3 dimensional CAD on laptop to allow students to experience the virtual world of engineering design.
If we are able to create a sustainable business with this service, we are intending to take the concept further by applying for government funding to set up an engineering bus to take to schools. The bus will provide teaching and workshop facilities for small groups of students or teachers. We are planning to have 3D scanning, data manipulation software, 3D CAD, industry standard CAM software running a modern CNC machining centre and hopefully other rapid prototyping machines as well. To make this happen, we need the support of teachers and schools in the East of England.
